Social Security Disability
Experienced Counsel When You Have a Social Security Disability Claim
If you have suffered an injury that makes it difficult or impossible to work, or if you have an illness that does not allow you to be gainfully employed, you may be entitled to benefits under the federal Social Security system. The process for obtaining compensation can be complex and confusing. You want an attorney who knows the law and who will help you understand your options, so that you make informed decisions.
At the Law Offices of Maurice B. Smith, we represent men and women throughout the San Joaquin Valley and the Sacramento Valley who seek recovery of benefits under a Social Security disability claim. We have over 25 years of experience handling personal injury matters. Contact us to arrange a free initial consultation.
Social Security Disability Income (SSDI)
If you are under retirement age and have previously worked and paid money into the Social Security system, we can help you seek benefits to compensate you for lost wages and income, medical expenses and even job retraining. We work with clients at all stages of a Social Security disability claim, from the initial application and reconsideration to appeals and administrative hearings.
In our experience, there are many conditions that may qualify you for SSDI benefits, including but not limited to:
- Back or brain injury
- Cancer
- Autoimmune disorders
- Chronic fatigue
- Connective tissue disorders
- Depression
- Arthritis
- Cardiac disease
- Diabetes
In order to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you must show that you will be unable to work for at least 12 months. We will work closely with you, with your doctors, and with any other experts necessary to demonstrate that you qualify for coverage under the law. If you qualify for SSDI, you will be enrolled in Medicare.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
We also handle initial applications, requests for reconsideration and appeals regarding SSI. You do not need to have made prior contributions to be eligible for SSI, as it is need-based. If you qualify for SSI, you will be enrolled in Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program.
